For the second consecutive year, the Big Bad Wolf is finally arrived in Cebu and brought over 1 million books with multiple genres and new titles for Cebuano bookworms this August 16 until August 26, 2019, at the IEC Convention Center. You don’t have to seek your schedule because of its 24-hour operation for an eleven-day run to accommodate shoppers and give readers more time to browse and select books offered. And of course, the entrance is absolutely FREE.
Shoppers can select books marked at 50% to 90% off the recommended retail price. Expect great selections of different books from fiction and nonfiction to different kinds of books that can be used as a reference for studies, hobbies, cooking, life hacks, and business. They also have children’s books and toys at a special discount for your children. Local books from Adarna Publishing are also available and book signings from local authors are scheduled during the sale. Readers can purchase books using cash, credit or debit card including BPI credit card and PayMaya. Everyone is encouraged to drop by multiple times during the sale period, as books will be consistently restocked throughout the whole time.
Helping Community Through Books
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale has always been a firm believer that everyone should have access to books and learn new things regardless of social status. The Red Readerhood, the Book Sale’s Corporate Social Responsibility arm, will be partnering with its partner organization, Gawad Kalinga, to furnish GK partner communities, public schools, and libraries with books. The Book Sale has pledged to donate 500 books and shoppers can also join the initiative by donating books for Big Bad Wolf Book Sale’s Red Raderhood corner during the sale.
From the last year’s Big Bad Wold sale last 2018, there are a total of 5,000 books collected from customers visiting the Book Sale and it was donated to Gawad Kalinga’s community libraries in Budlaan, Dumanjug, Bantayan and Ticad, public schools in Bago, Bicol and providing books to over 1,000 families.
This year’s Big Bad Wold Book Sale celebrates its 10th year of providing readers with high-quality books at great discounts. The Malaysian-based sale has traveled across several countries to Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Taiwan, South Korea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Big Bad Wold debuted in the Philippines with its Manila Sale in February 2018 and followed by Cebu in July and Davao in November.
My Great Finds
As a Creative Director and Content Creator, I want to seek some books that can give me further information and ideas on how to make creativity effective for my work and hobbies. I took the opportunity to be part of the Big Bad Wolf sale and explore the whole kind experience where I can find those books that I’m looking for. I particularly visited the area for the Graphic Design section and took the time to check and scan graphic design and illustration books. After my long patience for finding those books, I finally found the best books there.
1.) NEW MODERNIST TYPE by Steeve Heller and Gail Anderson
I actually love this book when I saw the sample version. I saw a lot of great graphic design samples there can be my future reference for Graphic design execution and creative direction. The book is around Php 580.
2.) Artless Art & Illustration by Siple Means
The book is actually great for artistic reference for multimedia aesthetics and mixed-art media. If you want to squeeze your imaginative art process, this book is for you at Php 680.
3.) FIFTY YEARS OF ILLUSTRATION by Lawrence Zeegen and Caroline Roberts
This is actually insane to see this book with different illustrations. If you are a passionate illustrator for book covers, this book is absolutely great for art reference. Grab it at Php 480.
Aside from art books, I also took the time to find a book for self-management. So I found this book from the Self-Help section and it took my attention.
4. STRESS The Psychology of Managing Pressure by Diane McIntosh, MD, FRCPC and Jonathan Horowitz, PhD.
This book can be a guide to manage stress and improve positive energy. If you want to make your life easier from stressful work, this book is for you at Php 480.
